WOMEN - LIFE - FREEDOM

The Norwegian Nobel committee has decided to award the 2023 Nobel peace prize to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all,” the committee said in its citation.
Mohammadi is one of Iran’s leading human rights activists, who has campaigned for women’s rights and the abolition of the death penalty and an improvement of prison conditions inside Iran.
The award will be viewed as a tribute to the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Iran that rocked the clerical establishment last year, but has been suppressed with many activists either killed or in jail.

PRIZE IN JAPAN

 This poster made for my exhibition in Kazan won bronze prize at the 13th International Poster Triennial in Toyama. (Three years ago I got the bronze medal too with the "Zombi Lenin" poster.) A BRONZE IN TOYAMA

The jury of the 12th International Poster Triennial Toyama has selected the prize winners from 3,239 applies. The Grand Prix went to VU-HUU, TOAN (BALDINGER・VU-HUU) [from Germany]. My work (1917 – 2017) got a Bronze Medal.  Click here to see the rest prizes. The prize awarding ceremony was hold today at Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design.

WARSAW

The International Poster Biennale located in Warsaw at the Poster Museum of Wilanow is the oldest and one of the most important and prestigious artistic event of its kind in the world. The first biennale was held in 1966. The 22nd one was opened in the last week. Four of my works are exhibited and one of them, entitled ”Volk” got the Bronze Medal. You can see the poster in a March note of the last year. One of the accompanying events of the biennale is the exhibition of the Hungarian Poster Association; it takes place in the Węgierski Instytut Kultury.

Some years ago, I was asked to design a poster for the jubilee 20th Poster Biennial in Warsaw – Posters are said to be the art of “here and now”. I wanted to describe this relationship in that poster.

And one more poster news: School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents "Where Is My Vote? Posters for the Green Movement in Iran," an exhibition of political posters created in support of the protests in Iran that followed the 2009 presidential election. The exhibition is the first public viewing of the posters in printed form. Opened: 2010-08-30 - 2010-09

"Becoming famous in South America does not make one any less unknown.” (Jorge Luis Borges) My lecture was about the relation of time and space in posers. I described them as the genre of “hic at nunc”. Posters are on the point of intersection of time and place, they are said to be the art of “here and now”. The message of a poster concerns with only one particular moment: it would be meaningless in an earlier time and would be invalid after the announced event as it does not make any sense in other places. During the lecture a collection of my works were projected where the above mentioned kind of Time-Space-Poster intersection was dominating.
I am ready to admit that some of my posters in a sense have never been real posters at all. They do not fulfil their function if we expected them to be commercial posters and they are not sufficient applied graphic works if we expected them to compliance with clients. But I would like to believe that they begin to talk if we are interested in the age, in the world that was given to us to live in, if we should like to know how ideas were coming and going among the different fields of culture, how a theatre-message was communicated by the means of visuality, how literature was written further in the language of fine arts, and how the originally subordinate idea has become independent, equal and may be personal. If these poster-graphics had message, probably they will have it too, apart from borders and periods.
