ISTVÁN OROSZ, GUNTARS SIETIŅŠ. ON
ESCHER’S TRACES
A100 Gallery is delighted to present the exhibition István Orosz, Guntars Sietiņš. On Escher’s
traces that will take place at the gallery space on Friday 22nd of July
at 18.30.
The exhibition, already successfully touring from
Budapest, Potenza and Matera arrived in Galatina. It is curated by Sergio
Buoncristiano and Daniel Köster, with the scientific support of Fiorella Fiore
and organized by Rebis Arte and Koller
Gallery from Budapest. The 40 artworks on display, are introduced by an early
section comprising artworks of Mauritis Cornelis Escher, Carlo Mo and Victor Vasarely, illustrate the latest
developments of István Orosz and Guntars Sietiņš careers. Both artists are
internationally recognized as among the most prestigious artists followers of
Escher. Despite coming from different backgrounds, cultures and countries,
being Orosz Hungarian and Sietiņš Latvian, both express in their work the deep
bond with the Dutch master, and both are virtuous in engraving, altough using
different techniques. Orosz etcher, Sietiņš undisputed master of mezzotint and
aquatint, both are artists of international fame, as evidenced by their
articulated résumé.Sietiņš is currently Head of the graphics department at Riga Fine Arts Academy, and he is a member of several international associations devoted to graphic art and he has exhibited his artworks in many countries. He’s considered worldwide one of the greatest artists in the mezzotint tecnique.
Orosz is certainly one of the greatest contemporary Hungarian intellectuals; sophisticated engraver, famous illustrator, multifaceted artist, known in his homeland and abroad, whose career is full of prestigious awards.
During the vernissage visitors can be protagonists of an interactive experiment of creative production that will address the theme of Self Perspection. The black room, a laboratory within the gallery space, has been specifically conceived and equipped in order to manifest, by the team of Gestalt psychotherapists, Luca Petrini and Andrea Zizzari, with whom the gallery has started since a few months an innovative and multidisciplinary research. In Gestalt Psychotherapy the act of creation (as the artistic process) represents the ability that all human beings have of developing new behaviours to deal with existence, creating new and different horizons of action. The process necessarily requires to explore within the unknown zone, in order to develop something that makes a new sense of completion for us. Therefore it could be a behavior, a sentence, a gesture or a work, the creative act requires venturing into the unknown, enduring the generative tension inherent in taking the risk, in choosing. This is the synthesis that reflect a new way for the art by A100 Gallery. The overall project is conceived, organized,and coordinated by Nunzia Perrone, director of the gallery.
The exhibition will run until October 2, from 10.00 am to 01.00 pm and from 05.30 pm to
08.00 pm (in August by appointment)

SUMMER EXHIBITIONS
The "Paradoxonometria" exhibition
in Bratislava does not close in the end of June, hopefully it would be opened until
the end of the summer. (More information in the Hungarian
Institute). Warsaw celebrates the 25th Poster Biennial. It is the most
important poster-event in the world. This time, there is no competition,
however, the organizers asked fifty poster artists to send an old work for the Jubilee
exhibition. They appeare as cityposter in all over the town. In Matera, close to the boots corner of Italy my etchings and Guntars
Sietins mezzotints will be shown together. It will be the third joint
exhibition of us (Budapest, Potenza, Matera).

DONALD, MICK AND MAURITS
Is there any connection between Donald Trump and M.C.
Escher? I mean the U.S. presidential candidate and the Dutch craftsman. (By the
way he is my favorite graphic artist.) You say that it is impossible? O.K. The key
figure is nobody else but Mick Jagger. I read in the news, that the Rolling Stones have told
Donald Trump to stop playing their songs during his presidential campaign. The
band have issued a statement saying that the presidential candidate does not
have permission to use the band's music.
In the beginning of 1969, Mick Jagger wrote a letter to Escher
asking him to provide an image for the Rolling Stones' forthcoming record
cover. Here is his letter:
Dear Maurits,
For quite some time now I have had in my possession your
book (Graphic Works Of...) and it never ceases to amaze me each time I study
it! In fact I think your work is quite incredible and it would make me very
happy for a lot more people to see and know and understand exactly what you are
doing. In March or April this year, we have scheduled our next LP record for
release, and I am most eager to reproduce one of your works on the
cover-sleeve. Would you please consider either designing a "picture"
for it, or have you any unpublished works which you might think suitable -the
"optical illusion" idea very much appeals to me, although one like
"Evolution" would of course be equally as suitable. -and would say
the same thing. You might even like to do a long one like
"Metamorphosis" which we could then reproduce as a folding-out
sleeve. It could be either in one colour or full colour, that would be up to
you entirely. Naturally, both you and your publishers would get full credits on
the sleeve, and we could negotiate a fee on hearing of your decision to do it.
I would be most grateful if you could contact Peter Swales or Miss Jo Bergman
at the above address or telephone (reverse charge), and either will give you
every necessary assistance. However, I am not so fortunate as to possess a
Dutch interpreter, and so if you do not speak English or French, I would again
be grateful if you could fix up somebody in Baarn to oblige.Yours very sincerely,

Some days ago I received a letter from Mr. Jagger asking me
to design a picture or to place at his disposal unpublished work to reproduce

as I want to devote all my time and attention to the many commitments I made; I
cannot possibly accept any further assignments or spend any time on publicity.By the way, please tell Mr. Jagger I am not Maurits to him, but

(Conundrum: We know that Jagger is an Escher fan, and Escher is
NOT a Stones fan, and Trump is a Stones fun, and Stones is NOT a Trump fun. I wonder if Trump is familiar with the work of Escher. Maybe he is an Escher fun too. But it is hard to imagine Escher to be a Trump fun. Not only because he does not live.)
